Yesterday evening two armed men shot and killed an eighteen years old displaced man in Central Darfur.
Eyewitnesses reported to Altaghyeer that the armed men, who are part of a government militia, tried to rob the victim Ibrahim Ahmed of his phone near Alhimedia camp outside Zalengi, the state’s capital, but he resisted them. The perpetrators shot him in the chest and fled the scene leaving him in pool of his blood.
The victim was transferred to Zalengi hospital, but staff couldn’t treat him and he had to be taken to Algenina hospital, tens of kilometers from the scene of the incident, but he eventually died.
Darfur states are rife with insecurity and impunity, in addition to looting incidents carried out mostly by uniformed forces, some of whom are affiliated with the rapid support forces. And police in Darfur rarely follows the regular legal procedures in cases of crimes and offences committed by government militias which are granted wide authority and unlimited immunity.
