Cases of meningitis reported in Khartoum

Altaghyeer: Khartoum

An informed source within the state health ministry of Khartoum told Altaghyeer that cases of meningitis have been reported in two hospitals in Khartoum yesterday and the day before.

The source indicated that the two cases were reported in Police hospital in Burri and Fidail Hospital at Hawadith Street.

A medical source expressed fears of the disease spiraling out of control due to its gravity and rapid spreading nature as the affected tissues are adjacent to the brain and spinal cord making the disease life-threatening, thus classified as an emergency case.

In the meantime Police hospital undertook precautionary quarantine measures towards patient (M) whom results of diagnosis came back positive for the disease.

Last month a number of Sudan’s states, namely Kassala, witnessed a high prevalence of Chikungunya fever, which the government only managed to contain after assistance provided by the World Health Organization.
