Altaghyeer: Elobied

Elobied court in North Kordofan issued jail sentences against 8 activist and politicians as they were convicted of taking part in the latest protests.

The trial was held under the emergency act as jail terms went up to 6 months for each defendant. Among those on trial was head of the Sudanese Congress party in the state Hatim Mirghani.

The defendants were arrested in Umrawaba during the protests and North Kordofan’s governor Ahmed Haroon ordered their extradition to Elobied where they stood trial under emergency legislation passed since the beginning of protests.

It is worth noting that Ahmed Haroon is sought by the International Criminal Court (ICC) since 2007.
