Sudan welcomed the head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the mission will be of high importance for the transitional period to assist in the political transition and democratic governance.

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it welcomed the Special Representative of the Secretary-Generalfor Sudan and Head of UNITAMS, Volker Perthes.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Omar G. Ismail tweeted today, Wednesday: “I welcome Mr. Volker Perthes the Special Representative and Head of UNITAMS. On a mutual agreement, the mission will be of high significance to the Transitional Period assisting in political and democratic transition, sustainable peace, and Human Rights protection”.
The Head of UNITAMS arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday, marking the UN Resolution 2524 implementation, regarding the establishment of the mission.
Perthes was greeted by the Head of the National Executive Committee for Coordination with UNITAMS, Ambassador Omar Al Sheikh, who announced the government’s support for Perthes nomination and their confidence in his experiences and qualifications.
In statements, at Khartoum Airport, Al Sheikh welcomed the head of UNITAMS and the confidence accorded by the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, and expressed the Sudanese government’s support for his candidacy.
