Sudan: Strict Measures to Prevent the Spread of ‘Corona’

The Sudanese health minister has announced the establishment of occupational health and safety department to help institutions implement protocols combating the Corona pandemic.

Sudan’s health emergency committee said strict measures would be in place to oblige all institutions to implement health regulations against the Corona pandemic.

On Wednesday, the committee held a meeting whereby a resolution obliging employees at all public and private institutions in the country to wear masks was taken, and to be provided for them free of charge.

The new directives include adherence to the rules of social distancing.

Attended by the Transitional Sovereign Council’s member Ms. Aisha Moussa Al-Said, the committee meeting, which was presided over by the Sudanese health minister, Omar Ahmed al-Najib.

The meeting discussed the overall situation of infected cases and deaths caused by the Corona pandemic in the country, the region and the world.

The meeting expressed concern about escalating casualties and deaths in the Sudan and discussed protection measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing.

Department of Occupational Health and Safety

In a press statement following the meeting, the minister disclosed that the ministry would set up an occupational health and safety department to help institutions implement corona pandemic protocols.

He said the meeting was briefed on the corona vaccine distribution program “AstraZeneca”, which arrived in the country last week, that the Ministry of Health has followed up on all cases vaccinated with no side effects.

The minister asserted that the vaccine is safe and that likely side effects are significantly less dangerous compared to risks caused by Covid-19 infection.

Referring to the ministry’s commitment to guidelines as set by WHO, he said the situation is under constant evaluation by the ministry and the High Committee for Health Emergencies.

The health minister said the meeting had been reassured over the health situation at schools in the capital.

He stressed the important role of media in raising awareness as to Corona perils, and work to prevent its spread by forming a permanent committee for media work in coordination with the Ministry of Information and the Presidential Palace.

Sports Activity

He said the meeting listened to a report on how to restore sports activity in a safe and secure manner.

On the provision of oxygen cylinders in hospitals, he explained that the committee had directed the Ministry of Energy to provide a hotline for electricity to the liquid air company.

In addition to providing the fuel required to transport oxygen cylinders to the states, he also instructed to  provide oxygen tanks in all hospitals across the country.
