Head of Southern delegation visits Khartoum

The head of the southern mediation between the Sudanese peace parties is scheduled to meet officials in Khartoum to discuss several issues, foremost is the implementation of the north and center tracks in the Juba peace agreement.

Adviser to the President of South Sudan for Security Affairs, Tut Galwak, head of the mediation team for peace negotiations between the Sudanese parties, arrived in Khartoum this evening, at the head of a delegation from the Government of the South, on an official visit to Sudan that will last for several days.

He was received by the southern delegation at Khartoum Airport and the Secretary-General of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed al-Ghali Ali Youssef.

In a press statement, Galwak stated that the visit comes under the guidance of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the State of South Sudan, to review the developments in the political situation in Sudan, and ways to implement the political agreement recently signed between the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Prime Minister Dr. Abdallah Hamdok.

Peace Agreement

Galwak stated that during the visit, he will stand on the track of implementing the Juba Agreement for the Peace of Sudan, with special regard to the east track and security arrangements for Darfur and the two areas according to the agreed schedules.

The Sudanese government and the “Revolutionary Front”, which includes armed movements and political entities in Juba, had signed the final peace agreement.

Many entities have complained about the exclusion of representatives of the center in the transitional government before and after al-Burhan’s October 25thcoup.

The head of the center track, Altom Hajo, had previously criticized the revolutionary stance refusing to give the track ministerial portfolios for the northern and central tracks.

The head of the southern mediation, Tut Galwak, stated that he will discuss with officials in Sudan the issues of the central and northern tracks in relation to the item on the division of wealth and power, stressing the keenness of the southern government to enhance stability and peace in Sudan.
