South Sudan delegation in Khartoum to discuss restarting railways

A South Sudan delegation in Khartoum discussed aspects of cooperation in the field of railways, particularly recommissioning of the Babanusa-Wu railway line that would ease the transport of exports and imports between South Sudan and Sudan.

A delegation from the State of South Sudan, headed by Adviser to Presidential Affairs, Dr. Castillo Garang toured the workshops and the main passenger terminals.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport in Khartoum, Hisham Abu Zeid, affirmed their readiness to cooperate to serve the citizens of both Sudan and South Sudan.
For his part, the Director General of the Railways system in Sudan, Walid Mahmoud Ahmed, said that a joint technical committee will be formed to study what is required to start the project.
Current Status
The Director of the Department of Administrative Development and Quality at the railways, Muhammad Ibrahim al-Aqeb, gave a presentation on the current status of the authority and future prospects.
A previous joint meeting between the Sudan Railways Authority and West Kordofan State had concluded a joint meeting with the World Food Program in the country to discuss an offer submitted by Jam Company to build a railway line from the city of Babanusa to the State of South Sudan.
The Director of the General Railway Authority of Sudan, Walid Mahmoud and the Governor of West Kordofan State, Hammad Abdel Rahman, met and discussed ways of cooperation with the Railway Authority in developing and providing a better service for West Kordofan and the rest of the states through which the railway passes.
