Friends of Sudan, in a statement, expressed great admiration for the ongoing efforts led by the transitional assistance mission in Sudan, UNITAMS, the Intergovernmental Authority of Development (IGAD), and the African Union,

The statement said that it aspired for the next round of talks to build “consensus around the structure of credible, civilian-led institutions that will lead Sudan through a revived civilian-led transition period, culminating in free and fair democratic elections.”

The group urged constructive participation from Sudanese stakeholders, and the inclusion of women, youth, and historically marginalized throughout every stage of the process.

According to the Sudan friends group, in order for the tripartite political process to succeed, an ” enabling environment that allows all stakeholders to participate and freely express their views must be created, and Sudanese citizens must be protected from all kinds of violence.”

|Full respect for freedoms of association, expression, and peaceful assembly is vital, as is protection of property,” the statement read.

The group also expressed deep concerns for the current economic crisis that Sudan is living through, and vowed to provide aid and humanitarian help directly to Sudanese during the crisis.

Friends of Sudan also voiced its endorsement of the Sudanese-led political process facilitated by UNITAMS, the AU, and IGAD, and described it as the best method to help realize Sudanese people’s aspirations for freedom, peace, and justice, and to help restore the democratic transition in the country.
