The Army announced it downed drones controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), raising questions about the authenticity of SAF reports that RSF possess such weapons, or whether the whole issue is but war propaganda?
Khartoum: Altaghyeer
The SAF-RSF clashes, which broke out in Khartoum and elsewhere in April 15, have caused huge human and material damage, creating tragic humanitarian situation.
Pro-Army sites said the SAF has shot down a second RSF’s drone that use 120mm mortar shells.
Military sources said the drone had targeted a hospital at the Armored Corps compound killing doctors and their patients.
Not the first time
Sources told Altaghyeer that the RSF have used drones in another military operations including the Strategic Corps battle in central Khartoum.
The army has earlier circulated a video showing capture of a RSF store containing Serbian 120mm mortar shells.
The news is surprising indeed because it is known that the RSF arming is confined to machine guns, anti-aircraft and light armored unit in addition to thousands of armored 4X4 Toyota pickups.
Foreign expertise
According to Altaghyeer source these drones were destined and purchased by an Arab state, that veered them to the RSF.
The source said the RSF doesn’t have the expertise required for launching the drones therefore it is probably that foreign experts are being used for operating them.
The source revealed that a number of VTOL drones were shot down during the past days.
These drones are typical of the drones brought by Ethiopia from an Arab country in 2020 to use them in its war against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the source said.
The Sudanese army is able to shoot down these types of drones, the source added, predicting that only a handful of them could now be in stores.
