Dozens of civilian youths in al-Halfaya neighborhood of Bahri city have been executed by firing squad at the hands of elements in the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied “Al-Baraa Ibn Malik” Islamist brigade, sources in the neighborhood reported.
The victims have been killed on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). There was no trial based on due process of law, the sources added.
The SAF has regained control over areas north of Khartoum Bahri including al-Halfaya and al-Kadaro neighborhoods after a major offensive it carried out against rival RSF in the capital three cities since Thursday.
Reports provided different figures as to the number of those killed, some report quoted sources as putting the figure at 33 while others said there were more victims, the civil people platform “MAJD” said.
Activist and monitor of military operations on the ground, Mohamed Khalifa, said in his personal account on Facebook that those killed were 120 persons.
Identical sources said most victims of Al-Halfaya massacre were the volunteers engaged in the communal kitchens and other humanitarian work in the area.
Armed men from Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Brigade mostly arrested tens of civilians from their homes in Al-Halfaya, took them to a public square and shot them in broad daylight.
On its part, the RSF accused the Islamic Movement’s brigades of committing a brutal massacre of murdering more than 70 youth volunteers in the communal kitchens in Al-Halfaya suburb.
It said in a statement on Monday that elements of the so-called Al-Baraa Ibn Malik and military intelligence have committed the gruesome crime within a comprehensive plan targeting specific groups and elements of the community, provoking hate and retaliation for their defeats.
