Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed sanctions imposed by the United States on leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, and seven of his United Arab Emirates based companies.

The Ministry said in a press statement on Wednesday that these sanctions reflect the United States commitment to punish authors of the atrocities systematically committed by the RSF against Sudanese civilian populations including gang rape and murdering

The Ministry urged all countries to take similar action against the RSF leader and sponsors.

On it’s part, the RSF has rejected the sanctions describing them as barriers against realization of peace and stability in Sudan.

Member of the RSF delegation for peace negotiations, Izz Eddeen al-Safi, wrote in his account on X platform that the impacts of the sanctions will undermine the whole regional security describing the measure as “irrational”.

He said the sanctions reflect failure of the US foreign policy in dealing with domestic politics in the countries it interefers in.

This failure is clearly seen in the weak role played by Washington in mediation to end the War in Sudan, al-Safi said.

“Making such decisions, while the country is in need for genuine efforts to realize peace, will but aggravate the suffering and undermine hopes for imminent resolution of the Sudan crisis”, he added.

As a result of Tuesday sanctions, all property and interests in property of the designated persons that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons are blocked, and any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, individually or in the aggregate, 50 percent or more by one or more blocked persons are also blocked.
